New Year - a new beginning or a bunch of BS?

Yeah, here we go again. Having so called "fresh start" and giving yourself a chance to become a better person. Do you believe that? Neither do I. Well, sort of. According to Deepak Chopra we have between 60, 000 and 80, 000 thoughts per day and vast majority of those thouhts are the same thoughts we had yeasterday and the day before, and the day before... Kinda makes sense, especially when you went through heartbreak, doesn't it? And yet we know that we don't stay in the same place. We can change, take courses, learn new things. Just start again.

It starts so beautifully.... and then you screw up and make the same mistakes :P

Where, oh, where is the sweet medium?

By the way, have you made your New Year's resolutions? Do you BELIEVE in New Year's resolutions? Do you believe in resolutions at all? Personally, in THAT I do believe. I wouldn't be here if I didn't. And I wouldn't have done and engaged in all various things I was fortunate enough to come across.

I'm not going to tell you that you shouldn't make big plans for big changes because that ain't gonna happen. Nor am I going to tell you that "everything can happen".

Guys, it's just a chunk; sometimes shitty, sometimes full of improvement, but life is a continuum and its part - a year - doesn't define it. I start this new period of time with a few things in mind.

1) I've developed many habits (God knows, many of them not that good) throughout my life. I don't think my mind will instantly snap into a "freshness" mode just because the calendar has a new number on it.

2) If I try to create too many changes at the same time, my brain will go "mission impossible" and there goes a mssive slope.

What can we do to make changes easier? Change evokes change. In "The Power of Habit" you'll learn that it's easier for young parents to create new habits when they have their baby (I think I've mentioned that at one point).

It's easier to start creating new habits when you change the environment, impose a new lifestyle or another big change.

We, ladies, actually have this thing: we like to change haircuts hoping that this new "me" will handle old problems more competently. Doesn't really work, but hey, who doesn't like a little bit of grooming ;D

What worked for me in the past (seriously, I kid you not) was refurnishing my room and creating a more practical workplace used ONLY for that:

Just remember:

- to know in advance what habits you want to develop (if it's working out - go with a small "gym-corner" with a band, twister, weights, etc.; if it's reading - a clear shelf, and so on and so forth)

- not to go crazy - as I said, your brain knows better and it will fight; Starting with 15 minutes of reading is much more doable than 1 hour. Set yourself up for improvement, not sttruggle. It is supposed to be fun :)

I'm going back to watching lectures about gliding basics for the licence. Oh, sweet aviation law with all those exciting appendixes... ;)

In this following year I hope to break some walls I created in my head and I wish the same thing to you (even if we have to take them down brick by brick) :)

Love,

Anna
